At the heart of the Mornington Railway’s operations is a dedicated team, and none more so than Robert, our Lead Maintenance Engineer. With over 15 years of involvement, Robert’s journey began as a passionate volunteer, where his love for locomotives and hands-on engineering shone through. Four years ago, his commitment and expertise led to him joining the team full-time.
Robert plays a critical role in keeping our historic fleet of locomotives and carriages in top condition. From routine checks to complex repairs, his meticulous attention to detail ensures that each train runs safely and smoothly, preserving these heritage engines for generations to come.
When asked what he enjoys most about his work, Robert shares that it’s the blend of history and mechanics. “There’s something magical about working on these old machines. Every nut, bolt, and piston tells a story,” he says. His dedication goes beyond the technical—it’s clear he’s committed to the legacy of the railway and its place in our community.
Outside the workshop, you’ll often find Robert sharing his knowledge with new volunteers, mentoring the next generation of railway enthusiasts. His passion is contagious, and he’s a key figure in fostering the team spirit that keeps Mornington Railway running smoothly.
Robert’s story is a testament to the power of passion and dedication in maintaining our railway heritage. If you see him around, be sure to say hello!
