While some people get a train set; few people get a chance to enjoy the real thing – but you can do just that and get your hands on the throttle of either our steam or diesel locomotives.
Imagine standing on the footplate of a classic steam locomotive or sitting behind the controls of a classic diesel electric locomotive as the engine idles behind you. Feel the heat from the firebox, smell the hot steam and oil; hear the whistle, and feel the steel wheels turn. Remember the sound of “chuff-chuff” from the smokestack?
Your day will start at 9am and will involve two return trips between Moorooduc and Mornington with you at the controls of a heritage locomotive. You will journey along the Mornington Branch Line from Moorooduc to the new Mornington Station, taking your train over two level crossings, Balcombe Creek, the Mt Eliza fields, through Tanti Station (previously Racecourse), while negotiating curves and the different grades.
No previous experience is required as long as you are at least 18 years of age, reasonably fit and healthy, and share our love of trains.
You are welcome to invite family and friends to travel in the carriages on the second return trip. Catering is also available as an optional extra and, for a small extra fee, you can share the driving experience with a friend.
